And God said "Let the waters under the Heavens be gathered in one place so that the dry land will appear". And so it was. And God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of waters He called seas, and god saw that it was good.
I have mentioned that I have a view of the ocean from my window as I write. It's not a great view, but its certainly better than a fire escape or laundry drying on a clothesline. Water, whether the ocean, a pond or a stream has always had a positive effect on my soul. I don't need a lot of water to keep me happy. As an old man, my fondest memory from my college days relates to my short story "The Mighty HJ". The HJ was a Howard Johnson Hot Dog holder floating in the waters of a street gutter.
Water certainly serves as a powerful symbol in the bible. One story has Jesus leaving Judea and on His way to Galilee. Although most Jews would go the long way around Samaria to avoid contact with the religious half-breed Samaritans, the Bible tells us that the Lord Jesus must needs go through Samaria. He had an appointment there at the well with a soul-weary, soul-thirsty woman.
She came in the middle of the day to draw water. She had had a wicked life. The Lord Jesus knew all about her. He said to her, "Whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life." John 4:14
Water alone can't save my soul.
The bible implies that there is no rest for the wicked. "The wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt." Isaiah 57:20
My gene pool has a semi sordid past. I'm Irish, or to put a bit of glitter to my family tree, I am a Celt. The Celts are traditionally ignored in world history textbooks.Tribes were led by kings but political organizations were remarkably plastic. According to both Roman and Irish sources, Celtic society was divided into three groups: a warrior aristocracy, an intellectual class that included druids, poets, and jurists, and everyone else. Within this context, we begin to understand how the Celts were able to easily enfold their identities within the realm of the natural order of the Universe. The logic here is: “If we’re already connected to everything, and all attributes of nature are within each of us, then all one must do is focus on a desired attribute to express its fullness successfully.”
Celtic society was based almost entirely on pastoralism and the raising of cattle or sheep; there was some agriculture in the Celtic world, but not much. The importance of cattle and the pastoral life created a unique institution in Celtic, particularly Irish, life: the cattle-raid. The stealing of another group's cattle was often the proving point of a group of young warriors; the greatest surviving Irish myth, the Táin Bó Cualingne, or "The Cattle Raid of Cooley," centers around one such mythic cattle-raid.
Two swineherds were in rivalry with one another, changing shape in pursuit of their endless quarrel. They became ravens and battled for a year, then they changed to water creatures, then they changed to human champions and then finally into eels. One of these magical eels swam into the River Cruind in Cualgne in Ulster and was swallowed by a cow belonging to Daire of Cualgne. The other swam into the spring of Uaran Garad, in Connaught, where it was swallowed by a cow belonging to Queen Medb.
From these origins were born two bulls, the Brown Bull of Ulster, and the White Horned Bull of Connaught.
The White Horned Bull did not want to be the property of a woman, so he wandered into the herd of Ailill husband of Medb. When they were surveying their property one day they discovered that they had equality in all possessions except that Medb had no bull to equal the White Horned Bull in her husband's herd. (Having equal possessions was important to a marriage for the head of the household was determined by their property and it could be either a male or female depending on who owned the most goods).
So Medb determined to get a loan of the Brown Bull of Cooley so that she might appear equal to her husband. One version of the story has it that she "offered Daire the knowledge of her upper thighs" in other words offered to have sex with him if he would lend her the bull, he agreed at first, and broke his cushion bouncing on it for joy, and spilling feathers out of it everywhere.
However the agreement did not last...So began the great war of the Cattle Raid with Queen Medb raising her army to take the bull by force.

- And friends just can't be found
- Like a bridge over troubled water

Even though I may have a druid in my family tree, there probably aren't many tickets punched for entry into heaven for some swineherd who has spent much of his life drinking, whoring and cattle rustling. So, it appears that there is a lot work to be done. And, we shall continue tomorrow with:
And God said "Let the earth bring forth grass, plants yielding seed of each kind, and trees bearing fruit of each kind, that has its seed within it upon the earth." And so it was... And god saw that it was good, and it was evening and it was morning. A third day.
